Happy Sunny Saturday May Morning! It’s a beautiful sunny morning here today in Beach Haven. Enjoy the sun while it lasts this weekend! Right now the wind is coming from the SSW at about 9mph. Currently, the surf is somewhat calm with with 2-3 foot waves. You will need about 3-4oz to hold. Beach Haven water temp is 50.9°. The air temp is currently 58° and heading to 66°.
The bay is calm and 55.4°.
Low tide is at 7:31AM and 7:34PM. High tide is at 12:56AM and 1:41PM.
Reports are starting to pick up for striped bass, bluefish and black drum in the surf. We received surf clams yesterday and are the bait of choice of the bass right now. Of course a top water lure will do the trick too. Fluke season opens tomorrow! Unfortunately, it looks like the weather may not cooperate. My weather app says to get out early.
Don’t forget to register for the 23rd Annual LBI Spring Derby! Fee is $20 and you can register at any of the 3 LBI tackle shops (Jingles, Surf City Bait & Tackle and Fishermans Headquarters). The tournament is for biggest striped bass and bluefish. There is also a Catch & Release prize for striped bass over the slot limit. The Spring Derby runs through June 22nd so you have plenty of time to catch that winning striper or bluefish!
