We have a Spring Derby weigh-in! Matt Shapiro caught a 9.96# and 30 5/8″ striped bass in Holgate last evening using salted clams. His son PJ caught one just short of 28″ the day before. So they are here which means its time to get out there on the beach! Up at the lighthouse I had more reports of tog with a couple being keepers. They were using green crabs. Tog is open for one more week (Apr. 30th), with 4 fish per.
The 23rd Annual LBI Spring Derby is underway – running until June 22nd. It is $20 to register and you can register at any of the 3 LBI tackle shops (Jingles, Surf City Bait & Tackle and Fishermans Headquarters). The tournament is for striped bass and bluefish and there is also a Catch & Release prize for striped bass over the slot limit.
